Email received today.............

Hi Jenny

I just don't know what dog owners in the West Midlands would do without the tremendous service provided by K9SearchUK. I know at times your patience must be tested by certain uncaring and ignorant owners, but I just wanted to say a long overdue massive thank you to you and your colleagues for all your help in reuniting the genuinely lost dogs with their owners.

THANK YOU!

Kind regards
Ros & Chris Dobson

Email received:

Is the blue dane that was mentioned in preloved ads by k9 search the one I saw advertised in Free Ads yesterday? The one they threatened to have put to sleep if no one offered it a home?
I hope the people are traced who kept it in a half starved state.I`m glad that it might have the chance of a decent home now. I have owned Danes for 30 years and reading the ad yesterday made the poor dog sound savage which is entirely out of character unless they have been badly treated. Thanks to all those who have given this dog another chance.
Kind regards,
Chris

These are a few of the emails i have received today from people who have been concerned about the poor great dane we have been keeping an eye on the last few days on free adds only for him to end up in kennels today discarded has a stray ?
He will now be found a rescue who can help him .

1..says: Thank goodness, poor dog, have been following the ads and seething! Have kept the phone number from the ad if you need it, had a feeling he would turn up in the pound.

2.. well done coming to the rescue again.xxxxxx

3.. cant give enough respect for the amazing job your all doing sorting out the problems of idiots any chance you can put a photo of the dane on to show people how bad things get?

Thank you all for your emails

Walsall Council are currently undertaking a consultation on whether to introduce Dog Control Orders within its Parks and are asking members of the public to write in so they can investigate the impact of the presence of dogs in the Parks.

The Local Authority has the power to make an Order which will make it a criminal offence, subject to a fine of up to £1000, to do any of the following in a Park:

1) When in charge of a dog fail to remove faeces deposited by it.

2) Fail to keep a dog on a lead.

3) Fail to put a dog on a lead and keep a dog on a lead when directed to do so by an authorised officer.

4) When in charge of a dog to allow it to enter land from which dogs are excluded.

5) Take more than a specified number of dogs onto land.

The Council can only impose an order where it is a necessary and proportionate response to problems caused by the activities of dogs and those in charge of them.

Representations are invited from members of the public as to whether the Council should introduce such orders in the parks in Walsall . You should write to ?The Parks Manager, Leisure & Community Health, Walsall Council, 6th Floor, Tameway Tower, 48 Bridge St, Walsall WS1 1JZ or email parksmanagers@walsall.go.uk stating your name & address & why you feel that a Dog Control Order is needed to cover Walsall Councils Parks & Open Spaces

If you are a user of Walsall's parks then please do write in to the Council with any opinions you have and hopefully also to promote the use of the parks by responsible dog owners. They have not said as yet which of the above they would be bringing in or where but we would like to hope they can get feedback from responsible and sensible dog walking park users.

Hello, pleased to see that you've reopened the guestbook. You do an excellent job helping so many dogs and l love to hear the good news when you manage to reunite them with thier owners.keep up the good work. Do the kennels rehome to people living in flats.l know someone who is interested in rehoming a small dog but they live in a flat, only 2 or 3 floors high and they may live on the ground floor as she is registered disabled, but not sure what the rules are for rehoming in these circumstances. many thanks Caz

One of the things i can say is that they do go out frequently and can play in the snow, there are fields nearby and a canal, and they do get quite a few walkers, dont worry it is not like some of the inner city pounds where they have no much room to go out.

Thanks Sheila, for putting my mind at rest a bit about Sox and the chewing
lead issue. I was worried about one of the other dogs that does this, whose very lively but settles down after a while and walks lovely. I know that every one l've spoken to at Rosedene cares deeply about the welfare of the dogs. I also realise someone has to make these difficult decisions.God knows, l couldn't do it, my heart would rule my head every time.

thankyou for putting our lost staffie blaze on your web site. Thankfully he has now been found. A local elderly couple took him in on new years eve, and returned in whenthey saw a poster we had put up!! Lesson now learned he is going to be chipped and tagged. Thank you for all your help in finding Blaze. My brotherinlaw and my self came down to Rosedene to look for Blaze and throught it was a lovely place, having previously been down to Birmingham dog home where I left in tears, it was like doggy jail. At rosedene all the dogs were wagging their tails and seamed very well looked after. I've just read your comment about the 3 dogs who were pts and I agree that you can't save all the dogs, all you can do is look after them the best you can whilest you have them. If they wern't at rosedene who knows what experiences they may have had . - Again thankyou and keep up the good work

l was so sorry to hear 3 more dogs were pts.l walked Quad lots of times and he was so well behaved, can't believe this happened. If he had bit me, l would be devastated to know he'd died because it,and I'm sure the man involved feels terrible, but l can see he had no chance of being homed after what he did. What is even harder to accept is the death of the other two.Surely any dog locked up in a kennel, for hours on end is going to be excitable when given their freedom for a short while.Julian was a lead chewer but he is a lovely dog who found a new home.As a walker, l don't want to report any dog that chews a lead if it means that dog may be pts.

so sorry to see we lost 3 more it breaks my heart to see but even i now you cant save them all we can only try and help has many has we can ,the people who are to blame are the so called owners of these dogs who dont give them a good start then leave them to fend for them selves on our streets .

Thank you Ruth, unfortunately it is not that simple, because of the amount of unscruplous rescues in operation. All rescues offering placements for the dogs featured on Pound 1 have to undergo a vetting process before being allowed to take any dogs. This has been implemented by our local councils and has to be adhered to.

In the real world it is not always possible to save every single dog, I wish it was. As long as the government continue to ignore the problem the UK is facing with stray dogs, the future for every stray will be a bleak one. However, we are fortunate (for want of a better phrase) that our kennels do not put to sleep on a whim, it is always done for valid and sensible reasons.

Sox with his lead chewing made him unappealling to any potential new home, thats why he had been in kennels for so long. I am led to believe his problems had worsened recently and suggestion to pts had been made sometime ago, but after outcry from some of the staff /volunteers at kennels, it was decided he would be given more time to work through his problem, but it hasnt happened.

Quad, another long term stayer that bit a dog walker quiet badly over the holiday period, regardless of blame. Rehoming a known biter can land rescues in a lot of hot water and have legal implications should the dog go on to bite again.

Porky had been unpredictable since arriving at the kennels on 14.12.09. At weekend he was taken out and walked and the behaviour he displayed was far from good. It was the vets decision to pts Porky too and not the kennels.

The 3 pts today, had nothing to do with the lack of space, it was purely down to being realistic about matters. I do feel for those that have come into personal contact and built up a rapport with these dogs. But walking away isnt the answer, the remaining dogs need us all, and more than ever now. These dogs look to us all for protection from the owners and the system that fails them constantly. But we all have to be sensible and understand that there is just no way that we can save them all.

I know at times I can appear "hard faced", but believe you me behind closed doors my emotions run riot too (as many of my good friends will confirm).

RIP beautiful boys, darling Quad who was so beautiful and never showed any nasty side until a stupid incident, Sox who was only a baby but just a bit wild and needed taming and Porkie who i never handled but i gave some treats to and who was a lovely looking lad, i hope that people think tonight about these 3 dogs, everybody who dumps their pets, the stray dog system and the people that issue desruction orders, and call me over emotional but i would rather be like that then hard as nails. I just hope that some of the other dogs down there will have more of a chance.xx

Happy Christmas to Everyone at K9search!

Thank you Jen for all the hard work getting rescue places for the dogs as well as everything else you do! Also, everyone else who works behind the scenes, especially the rescues who continue to help the strays featured on this website by offering them rescue places and securing them new homes.

For the dogs I wish them all a good Christmas and hope that 2010 is a better year for them. As Karen has said - each dog at the kennels has a stocking for tomorrow and some of us will be going down there in the morning to give them a short walk.
