I'm Still Here
Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

Max came in as a stray in Dec 2008, an old fella who didnt really stand a chance of finding a new home. That was until K9 Search transporter Diane came along. Unfortunately Max had recently been diagnosed with cancer and Diane had to make the sad decision to let Max go to the bridge.
Dianes words say it all " he was a fantastic Ambassador for Staffies, great with other dogs, cats, kids everything, he never moaned or growled and I loved him so much"
Good Night, God Bless Dear Max
Thank you Diane for giving Max the love he truly deserved.
Today, 9th November 2009, at 5.45am an old black and tan collie male was found tied up under a canal bridge at Hill Top, West Bromwich, tied up in a way he was lucky to be found let alone survive. There is no doubt he had been left overnight in freezing temperatures. He had numerous tumours over his body that were bleeding profusely one larger than a tennis ball.
The vets decided is was best to end his cruel and heartless suffering and with consent of local authority, he was put to sleep this afternoon.
God bless you old fella, you deserved dignity, the dignity to die in the arms of your owner and not a stranger.

Damsel came into kennels on 4th August 2009 as a stray, she had a severe eye problem which resulted in her having surgery in an attempt to relieve her symptoms. This week the vets advised kennels, that her problems had worsened dramatically, she was now in pain and suffering and recommended that she be put to sleep. Star arrived at kennels on 8th July 2009 after being found on the canal in Great Bridge. This poor dog was extremely scared, nervous on arrival. A couple of dedicated kennel volunteers worked to build on his lack of trust, as you see from the photos he could be a nice dog. This week he was transferred to the vets for neutering, there he became extremely aggressive and vets decided that Star could not be rehomed safely and the decision was made to pts.
Run free Star, you will not be forgotten.

It with great sadness that we have to announce the sad loss of our lovely rescue boy Ted, as most of you will know he came into rescue in december with mange and an appeal was launched to help this lovely boy get back to full health, By the end of febuary the vet confirmed that he was clear of mange or mites and that his hair would grow in time, we were seeing great improvment then around the end of apirl we noticed that his skin was becoming inflamed, we done more blood test which all came back clear even to allergys, he was given a 3 week course of antibiotics just incase it was an infection that didnt show up, there wasnt much improvment. We changed all his diet and tried various diffrent homopathic remedies to no avail, we were then advised to have him tested for skin cancer which has come back positive it was also very clear that his lymph glands in his neck were also enlarged, After discussion with the vets and rescue staff we felt it was best to put the lovely Ted to sleep as he was starting to suffer.
The rescue would like to thank everyone that donated towards Ted and also his lovely foster carers Tracy & Gary and there little son Lewis and also his doggie pals Bob, Cassie & macy for the love and care they gave him and taking care of him for the last 7 months
I was chosen today
I'm learning to fly
the world took me away
but please don't you cry
And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone
When you're feeling alone
just remember our love,
I'm up near the stars
looking down from above.
Remember our love
In a moment you'll see
that I'm still here beside you
when you're thinking of me.

On 5th August 2009, Sandwell dog warden received a call to collect an injured rottie from the Wednesbury area. On arrival the warden what shocked at what he saw. The rottie was extremely emaciated, just skin and bone, he had also completely lost the use of his back end and several large lumps on his body. Fazer was rushed to the nearest vet for fluids before being transferred to the nearest animal hospital.
Initial examinations and tests revealed that Fazer had not been involved in an accident, the excessive wear on his front claws indicated that he had been dragging himself around for some time. The lumps were very advanced untreated cancers. After a period of 24 hours the decision was made by the vet to put Fazer to sleep as he was not strong enough to withstand any extensive and evasive treatment.
Fazer, run free at the bridge, no more pain or suffering....you touched the hearts of so many in the few hours that we knew you.

Pepper, another unclaimed stray that was transferred to rescue last weekend. Initial vet examinations at the rescue revealed that Pepper had a series of deformities in the hip area and internal organs which would have been present at birth and have since gone untreated. The deformity of the tail, there are indications that there may have been a failed attempt to dock the tail to hide the problem. The position of the break in the tail had added to her problems, placing severe pressure on the spine and nervous system.....thus affecting her control/ability to pass urine and the emptying of her bowel.
It was upon vets recommendation that Pepper was put to sleep to end her suffering on 17th July 2009.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears

Its with sadness that we have to report that King was killed in an RTA this evening on the M6. We will never know what spooked King into leaving the area where he was safe, 3 days with no attempt to move near the motorway let alone cross it? The problem we all faced that he was covering such a vast rural area in such a short space of time, it was impossible to know which field he would appear in next. As King did not appear food orientated at all - probably due to the area being full of rabbits, and no shortage of water either, it was impossible to implement a feeding pattern allowing a trap to be used.
Sincere thanks to the people who were out on the ground over the past few days, Kev & Steve from GSD Rescue, Matt, Gavin and Diane from K9 Search. Also to everyone that took part in the background co-ordination.
Thanks to West Midlands Motorway Police, Highways Agency, HeartFM who helped such a great deal today.
King, good night, god bless big boy...............our candles now guide you to the bridge instead of home.

Due to the sharp increase in stray dogs within our region, sometimes the kennels are faced with making the heartbreaking decision to put to sleep dogs in their care. Its certainly not an easy decision to make for anyone.
Despite attempts by K9search and other local rescue organisations to source rescue placements for 70+ dogs. This weekend, the kennels reached over their regulated capacity, therefore several long term dogs were put to sleep today.
Please do not be judgemental of the kennels and their staff, they are not to blame for this.
Run free at the bridge, run free with the wind.

Whispy was put to sleep due to ill health and upon vets recommendation.
Jix was collected as a stray on 1st August 2008 in West Bromwich, West Midlands. When collected from the finders home, the warden was made aware that Jix had bitten a child and another person. It was clear to the warden that this dog had not had a good life, he flinched at any movement, even if you were not anywhere near him. It is thought that the finder could have possibly been Jixs actual owners as they seemed to pass on an fair amount of history about him.
He was never claimed. Because of the aggression being displayed in kennels, Jix could not be rehomed for obvious safety reasons. Its certainly no life for a dog to remain in kennels indefinitely, so the sad decision was made to have Jix put to sleep.
Jix the system didnt fail you boy, your owners did! Run free at the bridge, you will know no more harm boy.
